Dairy Relieve™ is a feed technology developed to help support cows prepartum to peak milk. It is designed to help reduce inflammation in lactating dairy cows.

Key Product Benefits

  • Reduce Inflammation: Uses a combination of flavonoids proven effective at reducing inflammation.
  • Increased Milk Yield: When fed pre- and post-lactation, Dairy Relieve increased milk yield in lactating dairy cows by as much as 8.4 lbs/day.
  • Unique mode of action targeting inflammation at the systemic level.

About Inflammation

Inflammation is the body’s natural response to harmful stimuli. Cows can encounter numerous stressors leading to inflammation, and when there is excessive stress, this negatively impacts performance.1,3

Diagram of a dairy cow illustrating how stressors like heat, social, oxidative, and "leaky" gut stress lead to systemic inflammation (represented by a flame icon). Also links inflammation to mastitis and uterine health issues.

During lactation, cows can sometimes experience a multitude of inflammatory events, with the greatest likelihood of exposure occurring from dry-off to the early post-calving period. When repeated inflammatory events occur in a short period of time, this can lead to chronic inflammation which has detrimental consequences to health and productivity.

Opportunities for Inflammatory Events

Elanco graph titled "Inflammatory Triggers Around Calving." It shows a significant spike in inflammation levels (red line) starting at calving and peaking shortly after. Key triggers listed include pen and diet changes, heat stress, dystocia, and social stress.

How Dairy Relieve Works

Dairy Relieve uses flavonoids extracted from Scutellaria baicalensis. S. baicalensis is a perennial herb of the family Lamiaceae and is natively distributed in East Asia and widely cultivated in European and American countries. The roots of S. baicalensis are the source of its flavonoids, which include baicalein, baicalin, wogonoside and wogonin.4

Flavonoids have been shown to play a significant role in attenuating the effects of inflammation and the associated oxidative stress by increasing antioxidant production and reducing inflammatory cytokines.5 Dairy Relieve consists of flavonoids that have been associated with reducing inflammation and having antioxidant properties in dairy cattle.6-7

Addressing pre- and postpartum inflammation in dairy cows allows for improved mammary health and increased milk yield.
