DIRECTIONS FOR USE

By law the user must take due care, obtaining expert advice when necessary, to avoid unnecessary pain and distress when using the product other than as directed on the label.

This product must not be used for growth promotion in cattle intended for human consumption.

For bloat control: Give one capsule using the Rumensin Capsule Applicator. Wait seven days before introducing stock to bloat risk pasture.

CAUTION: MAINTAIN HERD OBSERVATION DURING SEVERE BLOAT CONDITIONS.

As with any bloat treatment, herd observation is still required during bloat challenge periods. If additional protection is required, supplementary treatment may be administered.

Cattle weighing in excess of 600 kg liveweight may receive a lower than optimal Rumensin dose, and supplementary treatment with additional Rumensin product is strongly advised.

For increased Milk Protein Production: Give one capsule orally using the Rumensin Capsule Applicator. Milk fat percentage may be reduced but there is no effect on total fat yield.

For control of Ketosis: Give one capsule orally prior to the start of calving.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

Do NOT use in cattle weighing less than 250 kg.

Do NOT re-treat animals, for at least 100 days.

GENERAL USE

Rumensin Capsule payout data were obtained under controlled environmental conditions where cattle are fed on Ryegrass. Animal husbandry practices and bloat control methods should be adjusted when alternative feeding methods are employed.

Handle capsules with care. In cold weather take extra care in folding capsule wings, as wings may become brittle and can be damaged.

Record Cattle ID and Capsule Numbers: Capsules are individually numbered. Record the Capsule number along with the animal identification number prior to dosing. Should a capsule be regurgitated, the animal involved can be identified.

Adequately restrain the animal to properly apply this capsule. If a crush and head bail is necessary, the head bail must be adequate to allow the animal’s head to be held stretched forward.

After application, hold treated cattle in a small paddock or yard for at least half an hour. If early regurgitation occurs, check the capsule number and re-apply to the appropriate animal. If the capsule is damaged, apply a new capsule.

Check all animals 3 - 4 days after dosing, in case of capsule lodgement. Signs of lodgement are: coughing, drooling, off-feed and ill-thrift. If lodgement is suspected, call your veterinarian immediately.

Be aware of early capsule regurgitation. Experience has shown approximately 1% of capsules may be regurgitated early, within the 100 days. If early capsule regurgitation occurs, apply an additional capsule to the identified animal/s to ensure bloat control.

Do not use in Jersey heifers. Treatment with Rumensin Capsules has been associated with peritonitis following administration.

WITHHOLDING PERIODS

It is an offence for users of this product to cause residues exceeding the relevant MRL in the Food Notice: Maximum Residue Levels for Agricultural Compounds.
