I'm Dr. Francene VanSambeek with Elanco Animal Health. I’ve been a poultry veterinarian for nearly 30 years and have spent the last 19 years with Elanco, focusing specifically on broiler health and welfare.
Our web portal is part of what we call Elanco HTSi, which stands for the Elanco Health Tracking System Insights. It’s the world’s largest poultry health database, containing over five million data points collected from 52 countries and more than 350 poultry producers.
We collect this data through a process called a posting session. During a posting session, we examine broilers from different flocks and assess over 50 specific health-related lesions that impact poultry well-being. By summarizing these findings, we generate a health score, which producers can then use to evaluate the condition of their flock. This data helps answer important questions—such as what anticoccidial or antibacterial programs are currently in place, how those programs compare to past performance, and whether any changes should be considered.
One of the key advantages of our updated web portal is that it operates in real time. As soon as the data is entered into the system, it becomes immediately accessible. That means producers can ask data-driven questions and quickly determine whether they can improve performance, efficiency or sustainability.
A major improvement in the platform is the integration of posting data with performance metrics—like feed efficiency or welfare indicators. By combining these datasets in real time, producers can get answers to important operational questions based on up-to-date, relevant data. Producers can now evaluate how their current program compares to national or regional benchmarks—or even analyze how they were performing a year ago. The portal is highly interactive and makes this kind of analysis simple and accessible.
Another valuable tool we’ve added is a scenario calculator. If a producer wants to explore changes to their current program, they can simulate those adjustments in the portal. The system then generates charts and graphs to project how that one change could affect their performance, efficiency or profitability in a real-world setting.
