Coccidiosis is one of the leading parasitic diseases infecting poultry worldwide.1 It is a persistent disease and occurs when coccidia parasites invade the intestinal tract, often causing diarrhea that impacts productivity and growth. If untreated, coccidiosis can lead to secondary infections like necrotic enteritis (NE), resulting in prolonged pain, discomfort and possible death for affected birds. Coccidiosis is also incredibly costly for the poultry industry, with economic losses estimated at $3 billion globally per year.2 An effective, reliable solution is needed to protect the health and well-being of flocks and the resources of poultry producers. For more than 50 years, Coban has been the trusted in-feed additive for maintaining intestinal health and controlling the spread of coccidiosis. Coban provides both reliability and a clear path to healthier, more productive flocks, making it an essential part of poultry management programs across the industry.

Key Benefits of Coban

Coban is an invaluable tool that offers a range of benefits that maximize productivity and profitability for poultry producers. Effective coccidiosis treatment improves weight gain and feed conversion in older birds, offering more significant potential for a high return on investment (ROI). Coban supports healthier growth and translates into tangible financial gains for producers.

Coban offers flexible feeding options, with uniform particle size and consistent formulation that ensures precise mixing and distribution within the feed. This reliability is enhanced by a zero-day withdrawal period, enabling producers to use Coban up to the point of processing without disrupting schedules or production cycles. Its flexible dose range also allows producers to tailor Coban’s application to meet specific flock needs, operational requirements and environmental conditions.

Another benefit of this product is its uniform performance across various seasonal and environmental conditions, making it an effective anticoccidial year-round. This consistent efficacy is a valuable tool to prevent coccidiosis, especially in fall and winter, when maintaining dry litter can become challenging due to increased moisture levels and reduced ventilation.Coban is also an animal-only solution, which aligns with the growing consumer demand for antibiotic-free animal products. By meeting these standards, Coban provides poultry producers with a safe, reliable product that supports productivity and addresses market preferences without compromising efficacy.

Popular Coban Programs

Coban’s adaptability allows producers to integrate it into a diverse spectrum of feeding programs, tailoring its use to align with the specific needs of their flocks. These programs offer targeted strategies to maximize Coban’s effectiveness throughout various growth stages and seasonal conditions.

Straight Coban Program: This program offers steady protection against coccidiosis through all stages of poultry growth. It recommends a starter dose of 100 g/ton for both the starter and grower phases and 90 g/ton for the finisher phase. When there is significant potential for a coccidial challenge, adjust the starter to 110 g/ton.

Cocci Vaccine + Coban Bioshuttle Program: This hybrid approach combines a coccidiosis vaccine with Coban anticoccidial in the feed. The program begins with implementing a coccidiosis vaccine, followed by Coban in the grower (90 g/ton) and finisher (90 g/ton) phases. This bioshuttle program applies vaccine-based immunity as a foundation, with the support of Coban, to extend protection and reinforce intestinal health.

Nicarb/Coban Winter Program: Coban can be used throughout fall/winter programs to help maintain dry litter, particularly when ventilation challenges increase moisture in poultry housing. This program recommends utilizing Nicarb at 90 g/ton in the starter phase and Coban at 100 g/ton in the grower phase. The dosage will return to 90 g/ton in the finisher phase. Producers can carry out the Nicarb/Coban program year-round, though it is especially effective during the winter.

As outlined above, Coban is an effective anticoccidial for year-round use. Its flexibility and adaptability to various environmental and growth conditions make it a powerful tool for poultry producers. Coban is ideal for maintaining continuous disease management without changing products based on the time of year.

Why Choose Coban?

Before Coban’s emergence in the poultry product market, most broiler producers depended on hygiene practices and synthetic chemicals when signs of disease emerged. Coban was a breakthrough that transformed how producers controlled coccidiosis, becoming a key product that protects overall poultry health and welfare in flocks across the United States.

In addition to its demonstrated efficacy that led to product approval by the FDA, years of field application and continuous research reinforce Coban’s value as a reliable, trusted product. Coban offers producers peace of mind, a thoroughly tested product that performs well under various conditions.

Elanco’s pioneer products undergo rigorous quality assurance to ensure that each bag meets precise physical characteristics, potency and active ingredient standards. Its formula blends smoothly into the feed, optimizing stability and mixability. Feed additive formulations are vital because they directly impact how well a product blends into feed, ensuring that each animal receives the correct dose. A precise dose is crucial in maintaining the product's stability and preventing ingredient separation within the feed.

Coban’s packaging further supports these quality standards, protecting the product through transportation and storage to ensure it retains its efficacy until it reaches the producer. Elanco’s strict manufacturing and quality standards assure a consistent, high-quality and contaminant-free product.

In addition to high-quality standards, Coban’s reliability is crucial, especially during high-stakes production periods. Coban’s consistent performance helps to minimize risk by providing consistent, thoroughly evaluated, dependable results in real-world production.

As the pioneer product for coccidiosis prevention, Coban has protected the health and welfare of birds and helped maximize productivity in the poultry industry for over half a century. In a field where effective disease management is paramount, Coban remains the trusted, proven choice for producers dedicated to the health and productivity of their flocks.
